The event which takes place from 15th to 17th June, is regarded as the premier forum for the presentation and exchange of technical advances in the rapidly converging areas of multimedia broadcasting, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and networking technologies.

IEEE Paper 167, Presentation:

Elastic Frame Protocol

An open-source alternative to MPEG-2 TS

This paper discusses Agile Content’s new open-source Elastic Frame Protocol (EFP) and compares it with MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) with regards to protocol overhead, timeline and time stamps, error detection and recovery, (de)multiplexing, complex transport architectures, flexibility and use in modern packet- based transport architectures.

MPEG-2 TS has the advantage of being almost universally supported in broadcast media transport, but EFP was found to provide significantly lower overhead, 64-bit timestamps and much better possibilities to detect and correct packets that are delivered out of order.

VOD2Live

Exploring the technical challenges in the adaptive generation of linear FAST channels

The paper presents the VOD2Live platform architecture developed by Agile Content for the adaptive deployment of linear FAST Channels from VOD assets and live streams. The paper discusses the challenges and trade-offs that were considered to support adaptive ingest, hot editing and/or substitution of these assets on an active FAST channel without the need for live transcoding.

In addition, a brief introduction to the automated content selection engine is provided based on collected user metrics, assets metadata and other related KPIs.
